The Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO) regarding the power interruptions in the island for the next 2 months.

The AKELCO will be undertaking the rehabilitation of double and triple circuit lines in the areas of  Boracay Island and Sitio Tabon, Caticlan Malay Aklan Province.  There will also be the energization of a 30 MVA sub-station located at Sito Tambisaan Barangay Manoc-Manoc Boracay.  Due to this there will be a series of scheduled power interruptions in the said areas from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily excluding Sundays for a 60 - day duration. These are all being undertaken to address the increasing electrical power requirements of the island - both by the private enterprises and its residents.

Most resorts in Boracay have there own generators which are used as a back-up to provide continuity to there electrical requirements.  We make sure that our guests will be able to experience the resort in its full operating capacity.  Resort guests will be able to go about their leisure holiday with as little power interruption as possible.  Immediate concerns during your stay at the Resort can be discussed with our Front office Hosts or directly to our Resident Manager, who will be more than glad to assist you.

In a surprise related issue, most business and resort owners in Boracay are not feeling any disappointment or frustration about the announced two-month electric service interruptions. A group of resort operators and businessmen have expressed support for the system upgrade effort of the island's power services.

Intermittent power outages the island has been experiencing for quite some time is being blamed for many cases of damaged computers, appliances and other equipment. Electric supply in Boracay usually gets interrupted during peak seasons due to overburdened power lines. With the on-going and continuous development in the island, it is not surprising that demand and requirement for electricity is also rising. The transmission lines and transformers have to be upgraded to cope with the needs. Some transformers have to be repaired and restored, while several additional ones will be installed.

Authorities assure that the two-month electric rehabilitation effort in Boracay will be for the best. While the project is on-going, the entire island of Boracay is set to experience daily brownouts from 8 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon.

Lastly, as a form of good news, the electric cooperative operating in the area said the system upgrade effort might just take about 21 days for completion. That is, if no setbacks and problems linked to the initiative will arise.
